“Want to play mass?” This is what my siblings and I asked one another. (re-enactment, actual family not pictured.) I was the kid that got the cool toy about 4 years after it was cool, just enough time for it to finally end up at a garage sale. The Light Bright, the Atari, and the walkie talkies. I don’t necessarily feel like my childhood was deprived of toys because we made do with what we had, but I did hold a place in my heart for those special items that I missed out on and never got. November Fourth, 2008 is thus far going down as my favorite day. I say this rather bold statement with all sincerity... My Parents moved to Mzuzu, Malawi in 1969, with the LA Mission Helpers and their three children. While there in September of 1970, they had my brother Kevin. After about two and half years, the family all got malaria and had to return to the states. Both my parents retained very fond memories of their adventures there. For about $200 I bought a round-trip plane ticket to San Francisco. Turns out lots of people were getting married. The funny thing was, I wasn't invited to any of their weddings, but... Story: Story: I typed up this 'Why I'm Voting for Barack Obama' story when I was asked by one of my favorite independent magazines, VENUS, for my opinion on the matter. |
