I have always had a small love affair with shadow boxes and dioramas. I had seen some of Teresa's earlier works including her epic piece "Ball Return". It had so many detailed nooks and crannies you felt like looking at a Where's Waldo page. It was intriguing, clean, quirky, silly, well-crafted and well-edited. It definitely left an impression.
When it came to my husband's birthday I knew I wanted to get him something nostalgic, inspiring and that would just flat-out make him smile. With his obsession for cheese and dreaming one day to own a cheese shop, plus his Swiss heritage and our love of Swiss travel, the idea of a custom cheese shop diorama was born.
Working with Teresa was fantastic. She loved the challenge of a specific theme and enthusiastically started offering ideas for the project. I was immediately pleased I had chosen her for this commission. She brainstormed concepts and specific details with so much passion through the whole process, I knew it could only translate to a quality piece of art. She was receptive to my own wishes for the piece and then ran with it.
"Otto's Chas" exceeds all expectations of what it would be. After admiring the final piece for a few minutes she showed me that she had even installed a little light for the cheese case. And my head almost exploded.
Teresa has an amazing talent for two very specific niches. Putting humor into art and having an acute attention to fine details. The craftsmanship, originality, timeliness and customer service through the entire process was impeccable.
The end result is this adorable cheese house suitably named after our baby, Otto (also Swiss). Everyone who see's it is smiling. And everyone takes their time to really check out all the tiny details: the hand-made delicious cheeses resting on button platters, the scalloped roof trim, the photos framing our trips, the take-away chopping block, and the typical Swiss flag flying atop a classic A-frame style building.
It is happy art. And we love it.

oh...
and on the back of each diorama is a wall mountable hook, a signature by the artist (me),
and the special A Pilar Original tag on the back, proof that you'll always have the only one.
